On September 29th 2016 fisheries company Cornelis Vrolijk from IJmuiden and the fish-processing company Seafood Parlevliet officially announced the completion of the acquisition of a majority of the shares. In early september, the supervisor Authority Consumer & Market (ACM) allowed the cooperation between the two family companies. Realising the biggest fish transaction in 2016 in the Netherlands.
According to Director Annerieke Vrolijk, from the acquisition arises an innovative and responsive company in the fisheries sector: “with this partnership, we serve the entire chain and we strengthen our position in the consumer market: from ship to shelf. So we can also more respond to what the consumer expects from us, namely a high quality product, sustainably caught and whose origin is known. “
Seafood Parlevliet continues to operate under its own name. The new management of Seafood P is going to consist of Mike Parlevliet, Ab van Zetten, Richard Oerlemans and Arnout Langerak. Emiel Parlevliet and Peter Parlevliet, remain in a different role closely involved in the company.
The new management is eager to let us know about this new challenge and the added value that the cooperation offers. The pelagic, demersal and shrimp fisheries within Cornelis Vrolijk assures itself even more than before by outlets, while the processing branch ensures supply of raw materials with sustainable maximum product integrity in a closed chain. Many products of Cornelis Vrolijk carry a sustainability certification such as the MSC label.
Background information
The basis for Cornelis Vrolijk is laid in the year 1880. In addition to pelagic and demersal fisheries is Cornelis Vrolijk active in the herring wholesale and processing through the daughter company Jac. Den Dulk & Sons BV and in the (tropical) shrimp catch and trade through a joint venture in Primstar BV. Including partnerships over 1,500 people worldwide at Cornelis Vrolijk.
The basis for Seafood Parlevliet is laid even earlier in the year 1860. Since 1968 is Seafood Parlevliet processor of packaged fish products such as herring, mackerel and fried fish. Seafood Parlevliet is the market leader in the retail sector in the Netherlands and supplies both the wholesale and the care and catering market. Seafood Parlevliet Holding includes the operating companies: Seafood Parlevliet, S.H. Meij, Trade Factory and n. Parlevliet (Belgium – Lokeren). A total of 225 people working at Seafood Parlevliet.
